Memorial Day Service

Our annual Memorial Day service on May 28 will start with morning Mass at 8:30 am, followed by the blessing of the graves at Ankeny Memorial Gardens, 4208 N. Ankeny Blvd. This year the American Legion, Post #42 will feature guest singer, Simon Estes, as part of their program beginning at 10:30 am. We hope that starting earlier will give folks a chance to find parking and to be able to enjoy this world-class singer.

Catholic Charities Night at the Iowa Cubs

Join us on June 7th at Principal Park for an evening of Iowa Cubs baseball.  Proceeds from this event help the Diocese in its effort to provide shelter, food, clothing and counseling to Iowans in need. Learn more at www.CatholicCharitiesDM.org or 237-5078. Contact Barney Webb, bmwebb@mchsi.com or Kathy Avey, aveydp@msn.com for tickets. Tickets will be on sale after Mass at OLIH on May 26/27 and June 2/3

OLIH Welcomes Deacon Ross Parker

Ross Parker will join our parish this summer as a deacon intern.  Ross will be ordained as a “transitional” deacon on June 1, 2012 at Holy Trinity Church in Des Moines. A “transitional” deacon is one who will move on to ordination to priesthood after his final year of studies. This year the Diocese of Des Moines will ordain three “transitional” deacons who will be ordained priests early in the summer of 2013. Deacon Ross will be very visible during the summer since the intern role is intended to be very active. He will preach regularly at daily Mass and on weekends, he will be doing baptisms over the summer, helping with Vacation Bible School and joining our youth and adults for the mission trip to Joplin, Missouri. In addition he will make hospital visits and visit the homebound. He will begin the week after his ordination as a deacon, most likely starting Wednesday, June 6.

2012 Annual Diocesan Appeal

A BIG THANKS to those who have already sent in their pledge. With just 28% of our parishioners participating, we have raised 90% of our goal!  Remember this is our chance to support the Catholic church in our little corner of the world and we need EVERYONE to participate. If you have not done so already, please make your Diocesan pledge this week.
