Eucharistic Gifts
Every year our 2nd Graders, as part of their preparation to receive First Communion, sign up to bring up the gifts at Mass. As we come closer to their time of receiving the sacrament though, we still have plenty of opportunities for others to also have this privilege. It is especially meaningful if you have an upcoming anniversary or birthday to celebrate, but you are always free to stop by the Sacristy on your way in to Mass and see if you are needed. Our Lady's Saturday
The Diocese of Des Moines and specifically our parish is under the special protection and care of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The name given to our parish, Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart, directs us to imitate and pattern our lives after the mother of our Savior. To assist us in our desire to follow Jesus, through the example of the Blessed Mother, our parish celebrates a morning Mass on the first Saturday of each month followed by an hour of Eucharistic Adoration. Throughout history, Christians have honored Mary in many different ways, one of which has been by devoting Saturday to Our Lady as her special day. The idea of dedicating Saturday to honor Our Lady dates back to at least the year 804 AD, and continues to the present day— the Church even provides a special Mass of the Blessed Virgin Mary to use on Saturdays.Since Saturday was Mary’s special day, various observances arose connected to it. Often these devotions included the purpose of making amends. In meditating on the perfect love of Mary’s heart, we are filled with sorrow for our own imperfect love, and seek to make amends. The First Saturday Mass is one of many devotions that lead us to a deeper love of God and of neighbor. Join fellow parishioners for 8:30 am Mass the First Saturday of each month, as we walk in the footsteps of the Blessed Mother who leads us to her Son, our Savior Jesus the Christ. -
