Church Nursery

The OLIH Nursery is a free ministry available to parents attending Sunday mass and those who are catechists in our religious education programs. It is also offered to parents in our Faith and Friendship Monday and Thursday groups and during other events throughout the year.

The nursery is available to children ages one to four, or until registered in the FF program. It is open during the 8:30 Sunday Masses year-round and during the 10:30 Sunday Masses from September - May. The nursery is not open on Sundays during the following holiday weekends so that volunteers may be with their families: New Year’s, Spring Break, Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

The nursery is staffed entirely with volunteers, many of them parents of the children served. Most volunteers work during 1 Mass/month and nobody works alone. We have both adults and youth helping in the nursery. Youth under 12 years old can help along with a parent.

All adult volunteers are required to complete a background check, review and agree to the diocese code of conduct, and complete one-time training on protecting God’s Children.

If you’re interested in volunteering or have any questions or suggestions, please contact Laura Parsons or Molly Pendleton (nursery coordinators) at or 515-965-5541.

Watching the Little Ones

Could you give up an hour and a half one Sunday morning a month to watch our little ones in the Nursery? This ministry gives parents a chance to hear the word of God and come back ready to share it with their domestic church. Please note: in the summer months, the nursery is only open during the 8:30 am Mass. Contact Molly or Laura if you would like to be included on the upcoming schedule.
