Reggie's Sleepout

From: Saturday, October 27 3:00 PM
To: Sunday, October 28 7:00 AM

WHAT IS REGGIE’s SLEEPOUT?

Reggie’s sleepout is an event that youth ministry offers to bring support, awareness and funds to the work of ending homelessness in Iowa.  More than 1,000 people gather to sleep outside in boxes, tents and sleeping bags during Reggie’s Sleepout, raising much-needed awareness and funding to support child and youth homelessness in our communities.

While one night can never completely replicate what it must feel like to be homeless, this outdoor, overnight event provides some insight into the lives of people who don’t have a place to call home. Reggie’s Sleepout is one of the most well-known community events in Central Iowa. What began in 2001 as a unique grassroots event, has raised more than $1.7 million, with more than 10,000 campers.

Our team needs at least 5  High school aged teens to participate along with 2 adults, one of which is our youth minister Randy Henderson.  If we have less than this amount, we will encourage your participation through another community organization such as a sports team.   Our team will present our parish’s donation (collected by you after each Mass October 13-14) when we arrive at Drake Stadium at 3:00 pm on Saturday, October 27.  Each team member will bring cardboard and together we will make temporary homes to sleep in overnight at Drake Stadium on Saturday, October 27.  We will leave Drake Stadium the next morning at 7:00 am!  Adult mentors and chaperones are needed for this opportunity!  Please turn in the registration form, waiver, and $25 fee no later than Wednesday, October 24.  The info packet with forms are located on the kiosk in the gathering space.
