Alternative Gift Mart

Feeling uncertain about the upcoming Holiday Season and want to make it more meaningful.  Join OLIH Peace and Justice committee at the Alternative Gift Mart after masses on Nov 18-19th in the social hall.    Shop and learn about various local and international organizations while enjoying cookies, African chutneys, rainbow popcorn and fair trade coffee.

 

House of Rogues- is a non-profit located at 1975 N Ankeny Blvd #110.  They promote youth development through active and artistic expression and provide a safe space for youth to learn and grow, a home away from home.  They will be selling crafts and artwork created by the youth that attend their programs.

Wings of Refuge- is an Ames based non-profit that provides safe housing and comprehensive recovery services to victims of human trafficking.  They will be selling items made by survivors of human trafficking and other items that support their non-profit.  

Iowa Food Co-op-is a year -round online farmer’s market for Central Iowa. Members have access to over 75 Iowan producers and over 1500 local products.  Orders take place on a bi-weekly schedule.

Chocolate, Palestinian Olive Oil and Coffee- Always a great gift, these fair trade items help farmers around the world market their products at prices allowing them to support their families and thrive.

Catholic Worker Farm- Located in Maloy, Iowa, the CWF advocates for the end of war injustice in our world.  They pray, raise food with small scale, appropriate technology methods and pursue handcrafts.  Their handmade woven rugs will be available. 

Catholic Relief Services Gift of Hope- Not certain what to get the person who has everything.  How about a gift in honor of a loved one that makes a life changing difference for families and communities around the world.  Give a gift of clean water, education, help in emergencies, opportunity, health or food and farming support.

SERRV International- Gifts from 24 countries and over 8000 artisans and farmers.  Their mission statement is,” To empower small-scale global artisans and farmers through long-term trading partnerships, helping them build sustainable employment, resources, rights and a vision of hope in their communities.”
